Yes, you can visit Peniche in one day from Lisbon. The trick is not trying to combine every version of Peniche into the same day.
A good mainland day trip gives you the historic centre, the Atlantic coast, a proper lunch and Baleal. A Berlengas trip is a different itinerary and should be treated as one.

10:00 – Visit Peniche Fortress
Your main cultural stop is the Museu Nacional Resistência e Liberdade, inside Peniche Fortress.
The museum explains the fortress's use as a political prison during Portugal's Estado Novo dictatorship. It adds context that you will not get by spending the whole day on the beach.
Check current hours on the official museum website before travelling; museums close on specific days and holiday schedules can change.
If the museum does not fit your date, still walk around the waterfront and old centre before moving on.
11:30 – Walk around the harbour and centre
Walk around the harbour and central streets. Peniche is a working coastal town rather than a polished postcard destination, which is part of the point.
12:30 – Have lunch in Peniche
Make lunch a proper part of the day.

14:00 – Drive around Cabo Carvoeiro
After lunch, follow the western edge of the peninsula towards Cabo Carvoeiro.
Stop for the cliffs, the lighthouse area and views towards the Berlengas on a clear day. Nau dos Corvos, the distinctive offshore rock formation, is nearby.
15:00 – Continue to Baleal
Drive north to Baleal and park before walking towards the peninsula.
Cross the sandy connection, explore the small streets and look back over the beaches on both sides. If the weather is warm, this is your chance for proper beach time.

16:30 – Beach, surf lesson or coffee
What you do next depends on the trip.
If you want to surf, a pre-booked beginner lesson around Baleal can replace some of the sightseeing. If you simply want to relax, stay on the beach or have a drink nearby.

In summer, stay around Baleal for the evening and eat there or in Ferrel. Outside the long-day season, adjust the schedule and do Cabo Carvoeiro or Baleal earlier so you are not chasing daylight.
If you are returning to Lisbon the same night, check your bus time before sitting down for dinner.
Alternative: make the Berlengas your whole day
If the Berlengas are your main reason for coming, skip most of this itinerary.
Book an appropriate boat from Peniche, organise your required BerlengasPass and give the island enough time to enjoy the fort, walking routes and water.
