Supertubos is a world-class surf beach, not a dense resort. The best stays are spread between Consolação, the south side of Peniche and quieter accommodation along the IP6 corridor.

Yes

Consolação is the calmest nearby base and works well for couples or families with a car. The south side of Peniche gives you a larger restaurant choice and remains a short drive from the beach. Staying in Baleal makes sense only if you want access to several surf breaks rather than Supertubos alone.

02

Hotels worth checking

Silver Seahorse Garden Retreat and Hotel Neptuno are useful Consolação options, both with pools and parking. In Peniche, MH Peniche and Star inn offer more facilities and easy road access. Compare all four on our where to stay page.

03

During a surf competition

Event dates change traffic, room prices and access around the beach. Book refundable accommodation early, follow official event updates and never assume the competition will run at Supertubos every day; organisers can move heats when conditions demand it.

04

Practical reality

There are limited services directly on the beach and evenings are much easier with transport. Check parking, breakfast timing and the exact distance before paying for a room described simply as ‘near Supertubos’.

05

Choose the base around the rest of your trip

Consolação is the logical choice when quiet evenings, parking and quick access to the south coast matter most. Peniche town is usually the better all-round base when the trip also includes restaurants, the fortress or a Berlengas departure. Baleal is farther from Supertubos but gives surfers more alternatives when the south coast is too large, windy or unsuitable.

Do not choose accommodation from the straight-line distance shown on a booking map. Check the actual road route, whether walking involves an exposed verge and how you will carry boards. If nobody in the group will drive, a central Peniche stay plus pre-arranged transfers is often more useful than an isolated room that appears closer to the beach.

06

Booking checklist for surfers and event visitors

  • Secure board storage and a place to rinse or dry wetsuits
  • Breakfast hours that work with early sessions
  • Parking that remains available during busy event days
  • Flexible cancellation if competition dates or travel plans move
  • A realistic evening route to restaurants and supermarkets
  • Heating and drying space for an autumn or winter stay

If the purpose of the trip is to surf rather than watch, keep the booking flexible enough to follow conditions elsewhere. The Supertubos surf guide explains the level and hazards, while the Peniche surf forecast guide shows why one famous beach should not control the whole itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

Can you walk from Peniche to Supertubos?

It is possible from parts of southern Peniche, but the route is not the most comfortable choice for repeated trips with boards. A car, taxi or arranged transfer is easier.

Is Supertubos suitable for beginner surfers?

Generally no. Supertubos is powerful and fast. Beginners are usually better around Cantinho da Baía with a qualified school.

Where should I stay for the Peniche surf competition?

Book Consolação for proximity or Peniche town for restaurants and services. Choose flexible cancellation because schedules and locations depend on conditions.

Do I need a car near Supertubos?

A car is strongly recommended for accommodation, meals and following the best surf conditions around the peninsula.
